Move, Flow, Meditate

We often refer to mindfulness and being mindful. What does this mean? Literally, the character for mindfulness can be translated as “presence of heart.”

Gather on the University of Oregon’s  EMU lawn at 6:00 p.m., May 22, for Move, Flow, Meditate, a first-time mindful event to awaken to now.

Join an actively mindful function open to all abilities, with the goal of having fun and being mindful for about an hour. It’s free. You also get free stuff if you sign up.

Basically, you have to go. Be there to be here!

It starts with movement, dance. Then flows into yoga, wrapping up with meditation. Fast twitch, slow twitch, no twitch.

This is an event for everyone.

This event may enhance your present experience, as well as cardiac health and emotional wellness of the heart. This blend moves us into whole health.

From an eastern and ancient holistic view, besides pumping blood, the heart houses joy. Our internal organs, in Chinese medicine, have both a physical and emotional responsibility. The heart is the emperor over all other organs, as well as a path toward enlightenment.

What about the brain and science?

Neuroscientist David McCormick, director of UO’s Institute of Neuroscience, recently gave a talk about mindfulness. He explained about how the brain creates its own reality and how that reality can be improved through mindfulness meditation.

He suggested that not everything we believe is true. In fact, sometimes our perceptions are flat-out illusions. Our brain can generate illusions in our emotions, beliefs, and social understanding. As in, our brain makes it up. And we believe it.

McCormick explained, “You have to build up a practice whereby you are present but not drawn fully into your own storyline. Then you can watch your mind from a bit of a distance and build a more healthy relationship with yourself, your social group, and your world.”

A regular habit of mindful meditation can keep the clutter down in our headspace. It’s better for your head and everyone around your head. Basically, mindfulness contributes toward a well community for all involved.

We can build up our joy and enlightenment by doing mindful practices.

Let’s do this together!

Move, Flow, Meditate is an opportunity to take mindful action- you just have to show up.
